Satuday Night Scale in C#

"Tell Your Mom To Shave Her Ears"

Sat-urr-day night, Matthew Herbert and the Herbert Big Band played the Mezzanine. I scored some free tickets, so I felt somewhat obliged to check it out. I was on the fence about getting them when the show was announced because a show on Saturday night at the Mezzanine could translate to a Ruby Skye type atmosphere since Mezz is actually a club as well as the fact that I had my doubts about how Herbert was going to pull off a show of his subtle electronic fare. There would be a chance that he would go back to his old-skool techno roots, but probably not. And his partner in crime, Dani Siciliano was not on the bill. Well, the show was great. They had a sax and trumpet player along with a full band, and a singer who crooned like Jamie Lidell. It was a showcase of his songwriting abilities using conventional instruments as well his mastery of electronics. Herbert showed why he is still around making interesting music.

Here is a musical recollection of that evening.........

8:34 pm - get ready. get heady. do my combo chicken dance lambada (the forbidden dance). Beastie Boys - Dope Little Song (Hip Hop)

10:04 pm - preparty. get hyphy. do some headspins. run, walk, sit, run around. up and down and back again. getting to the next level. like getting pumped up for a fight, but knowing you got a taser in the BP. Aphex Twin - Windowlicker (Acid Edit) (Abstract Beats)

12:27 am - at the show. beats are blaring. the band is about to go on. still running around. how does that dance go. yeah. later. how many drnks have i had. can i stand straight. woozy. yeah, i can keep going. wow, that show went fast. Matthew Herbert & Dani Sicliano - Everybody Here Wants You (Jeff Buckley Cover)(Beats)

11:31 am - huh. yeah, i think i slept alright. did i sleep. my body feels 3 seconds behind my mind. or is it the other way around. what day is it ? Beck - Got No Mind (Singer Songwriter)

2:05 pm - i guess this is the last day of freedom. the grind starts again tomorrow. relax. damn, how does that dance go again. Antonio Bruno - Collage R (Ambient)
