"Fly, fly, the devil's in your eye, shoot shoot"

The Liars played Slims last night to kick off their tour in rain soaked San Francisco. With an apparent back injury that had the singer, Angus sit for most of the show, the audience was treated to what the demonic afterworld might sound like if it was controlled by the Liars. They brought this pounding rhythmic groove that was part Berlin Techno, part John Bonham, and part Funk Brothers. It reminded of seeing a DJ, or live electronic act where audience participation in the form of dancing is a necessary part of the show, but seeing that this was a hipster no-dance party, an irony filled head nod was all the band was going to get. Go check out the band on tour. Highlights from the almost one and a half hour ritual are below, although they are the album tracks and not the ones from last night. They are one of the best musical artists out there right now and their show only highlighted this fact. Drum's Not Dead is one of the best albums to be released, ever. There's nothing else like it, trust me.
These two tracks were the highlights of the show last night:
Liars - We Fenced Other Gardens With The Bones Of Our Own (Rock) - this track is the single version as the one on They Were Wrong So We Drowned is called We Fenced Other Houses...... the album was co-produced by Sitek from TV On The Radio and was a preview of the masterpiece ahead. the title of this post is from this track.
Liars - The Other Side Of Mt Heart Attack - the most straight forward track on Drum's Not Dead and also one of the best. Simple lyrics explaining something complex.
The Blood Brothers - Set Fire To The Face On Fire (Hard Rock) - these guys are no more, but they toured with the liars a few years back and have this intense energy that reminds me of at the drive-in.
Beans - Thundermouth (Hip Hop) - he's back and it's not on Warp Records ? from the mc who uses a verbal machine gun to deliver his message. not everything will hit it's target, but something will hit the target. this track was produced by Dabrye. i guess Anti-Pop Consortium is back together. nice.
Labels: beans, blood brothers, liars
