A Pause

Elevator, 2008

Distance and space. from people. in between words. pauses. thoughts. gazes. your stride. your perception of reality. of memories. a smell. a sound. an act. what causes one to remember one moment versus another.
i remember looking out the rear windshield of my dad's car when i was about 5 yrs old. it was right by where we were living at the time, and i guess it was a perfect frame for my memory of the tall trees with leaves falling from the impending darkness of winter. i remember telling myself that i would remember this picture. i would capture this moment.
transition. letting go. to start again. the leaves falling, the eyes opening.........

Here are some beats for your day of humpness. Trentemoller being the common thread with a bit of Pole, Modeselektor and Thom Yorke.

Lulu Rouge - Lulu's Theme (Feat. Trentemøller)

Trentemøller - Miss You (Pole Remix)

Modeselektor - The White Flash ft. Thom Yorke (Trentemøller Remix)

Listen To The Space Created In Your Head

Richie Hawtin's Concept 1 series was a revolutionary achievement in terms of creativity, and the distribution by means of 12" monthly singles limited to 2000 copies make it an expensive and quite sought after commodity to this day. The CD version has been remastered by one Stefan Betke (Pole) as well as the Variations by Thomas Brinkmann which is included in this double CD pack. The Concept series marks a moment of minimalism in music that still fits in nicely to the nature of techno today. The Brinkmann reworking with a custom made two-arm turntable, slowing the speed and separating the right and left channels brings out more of the genius contained in these recordings. Listen up, because these recordings are part of the reason that we are here right now in techno.

----------------------------------------

now, for the music:

Aretha Franklin - The Happy Blues (Let Me In Your Life Outtake) - from the 'Rare & Unreleased Recordings From The Golden Reign Of The Queen Of Soul", these recordings show a more stripped down version of songs from most of aretha's career. it also displays the diversity of music from jazz, to standards, to soul and beyond.

Bangers & Cash - Loose featuring Amanda Blank - spank rock and benny blanco are on this 5 track EP which samples the work of 2 live crew. most of the tracks have been all over the interweb, but the sound quality has been pretty low. once you can hear the music especially the bass, this EP is the party continued. spank and amanda blank are two of the best mc's out there right now.

The Celebration - Tame The Savage - the organ based drama is still there. guests from tvotr and the yyy's are all here. the songs seem to be there, but katrina ford's vocals seem to be lost or muddled in the mix. it's hard to listen to the whole album.

See Through Your Ears

Brendan Monroe figure

that's what she said..........................

Klaxons - Gravity's Rainbow (Soulwax Remix) (Indie Beats) - these purveyors of the so-called neu rave scene are playing a show at popscene (330 ritch) here in sf with amy winehouse. a soldout show. anyone have a hookup ?

Lusine - Still Frame (Lusine Remix) (Techno) - off of the Podgelism remix album. some great remixes from apparat, matthew dear, robag whrume, lawrence, etc

Amy Winehouse - Stronger Than Me (Intro) (R&B, Jazz) - this track is off of her first release, "Frank" and the album is more jazzy and laid-back and not as gritty as her latest release, but it's just as good. an amazing voice and talent.

Pole - Düsseldorf (Abstract, Techno)- a master of ambient abstract beats, stefan betke as well as the head of one of my favorite labels, ~scape. pole returns on steingarten once again reinventing himself.

LCD Soundsystem - High Priest Bum-Out (Indie Beats) - a b-side off of the north american scum single. i have had a while to soak in the new modest mouse, arcade fire and lcd ss and i have to say that my favorite by far is 'sound of silver'. james murphy is the coolest man in music right now.

The Field - From Here We Go Sublime (Techno) - a kompakt release of dreamy etheral techno. a strange disenchanted one?

Sia - Breathe Me (Live) (Singer Songwriter) - another vocal gymnastic practioner. from her upcoming live album, 'lady croissant'. a beautiful song.
